Our kidlets love animals. Most times when we want to do something with them it takes a bit of convincing before they realise we aren’t taking them to the most boring place on earth. We never, however, need to talk them into a trip to the zoo. We have yearly passes so we can go as often as we like, and we really should go more than we do; We always have a good time at the zoo.
So last weekend we braved the hot, muggy weather and got our explorer on at Perth Zoo. We had such a good time, as we do, roaming around letting the kids take the lead. When the kids started to get tired and hangry we decided to catch the ferry across to Elizabeth Quay and get a bite to eat. We figured the idea of a boat ride would distract them long enough to find some food without too much whining.
We had a great time on the ferry ride over to Elizabeth Quay. It’s cool it think this was the first ferry ride for any of the kids. (Or Harper may have been on one years ago – my memory is not what it used to be). We had lunch and ice cream and a look around and then made our way back to the other side of the river, and then home. It was a pretty perfect day.
Harper read the sign at the elephant enclosure and proudly announced that one of the elephants’ names is ‘Tricka’ (it’s Tricia)
‘How do you know that?’
‘That’s what the sign says; It’s T.R.I.C.I.A. Tricka’
‘No babe, it’s Tricia. The C.I.A makes a ‘sha’ sound’
‘No! It’s Tricka. I know that!’ OK then, Tricka. Sure. *Eyeroll*
This kid. Last time we went to the zoo he got one of these maps. He requested one before we even got there and then proceeded to walk around with it our entire visit. He even wanted to take it to school for news. Zoo maps are a big deal, apparently.
Can you believe she was this close! Just chillin. We thought Henry was going to freak out when she looked up at him, but they just kinda looked at each other and then went about their business.
As we walked down to catch the ferry I spied this cute little place. I don’t know what it is, but mark my words, I will find out.
I’m on a boat!
We are a big burger family. It’s our go to treat meal. Ask Henry what he wants to eat any day of the week and he’ll tell you proudly ‘Burger! Chip!’
This ice cream (..gelato? I don’t know the difference. Apologies to any ice cream/ gelato aficionados out there) is out-of-control good.
Did I mention I am in love with the gardens at the zoo? Can you believe this little scene exists right here in little old Perth?
